Overview of Gobindgarh Fort Amritsar
Gobindgarh Fort Amritsar is situated in Amritsar city. Everyone knows that this fort is covered by the Indian army but after 10th February fort is public for local and tourist.
Maharaj Ranjit Singh took 4 years to rebuild the Gobind Garh Fort. He has started work in 1805 and complete in 1809. When British rule our country so this Gobindgarh fort is fully occupied by army’s possession for almost 150 years. When India was free from British rule. This place took care by the Indian army.
Most of the people don’t know that when India -Pakistan partition happened then Gobindgarh fort used to serve as a camp for an immigrant from Pakistan. This first has a huge history behind it.
Fort has two big gates and four bastions and rampant along with main entrance known as nalwa gate.
Gobindgarh Fort has another entrance which is known as a Keeler Gate, everyone believed to be connected with the tunnel of Lahore. Originally, there were 25 cannons on the ramparts of this fort that are now replaced with modern weaponry. In the heart of the fort, lies a Toshakhana, which was constructed to store grains and provisions for the army of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
